Norco College Rugby Starts Their Season with a BANG!

Norco College Rugby scrum against CSU Fullerton in game on October 26

"Fast, fierce, and ferocious!" That is how the Athletic Department at Norco College describes the new Men's Rugby Club. From the opening whistle of the October 26th game against Cal State Fullerton, fans were enthralled with the fast-paced excitement, hard hitting action, and non-stop scoring. Coached by Brian Hudspeth and assistant coach Liam Harnett, this team is poised to make some noise in this emerging college sport.

Currently, Norco College is a member of the Gold Coast Conference Intercollegiate Rugby (GCCIR) Division II league with teams such as Cal State Northridge, Occidental College, UC San Diego, Point Loma Nazarene University, and UC Irvine. Norco finished in fourth place at the 7's Tournament hosted by Claremont McKenna on Oct. 12th, which earned them the title Shield Champs. That tournament featured Arizona State and USC and was Norco College's initial contest in this inaugural season. Women's Rugby is being discussed now and currently has 12 interested women with the hopes of launching their season next fall.

The Mustangs will play their first away game at UCR on November 9th at 1pm and then be back home for back-to-back games against Division I foes Azusa Pacific University on November 16 at 12:30pm and Mira Coast College on Dec. 7 at 1pm. For up to date times and opponents, visit Rugby Schedule.

Go Mustangs!
